Lyn Millner

Florida Gulf Coast University
Ft Myers, Florida
Lyn Millner returns to Teachapalooza fresh from a sabbatical. She founded the journalism program at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2011, after five years of field research and curriculum iterations intended to keep pace with the changing industry. Her students during those early years built the program alongside her. Though they couldn’t major in journalism, they were passionate and diligent, and they took smart risks — exactly what was needed at the time.
FGCU’s faculty hopes to keep that spirit alive, and Lyn thanks Poynter and Teachapalooza for helping her do that.
Lyn’s journalism background includes print and radio reporting. A very long time ago, she was a CPA, an information technology project manager, and a financial writer.

She has an M.F.A. in nonfiction writing from Florida International University. She’s the author of The Allure of Immortality: An American Cult, a Florida Swamp, and a Renegade Prophet.  She has an M.F.A. in nonfiction writing from Florida International University.
