Howard Saltz
Sun Sentinel
Editor
Saltz will explain his newsrooms’ “digital first” initiative which pushes content online before publishing in the newspaper. But it goes further. Starting in October last year, the SunSentinel decided it would publish first to online THEN pick from what it had published online to put together a newspaper, not the other way around as most papers do. (see a story on that decision.) With the change, there was no longer a digital side, and editors had to learn the digital skills to use the content management system, update the homepage, send text alerts, and update social media, along with a lot of other skills.
Saltz will explain to TEACHAPALOOZA attendees what these changes mean to what new graduates MUST know to be ready to work in the newsrooms of the future.
Saltz is previously the chief digital-content executive for MediaNews Group, the nation’s second-largest newspaper group. Served in that position after two decades in editorial leadership roles at various MediaNews Group newspapers.
